Folkloristisk Musikk for Klarinett - Scherzo

''Folkloristic'' music for clarinet and piano - a scherzo merging some modern elements with some modal inflections. Inspired by Norwegian music, of course - hence the ugly title of this thread.

That's the extent of my critique.

I enjoyed this alot. It has an odd ending, but I am hoping this was not the end? I think this can be developed and taken quite a way further.

Highly enjoyable! The variations in dynamics, the interplay between the instruments, the harmonious co-existing modal and more archaic elements created a fascinating whole. The only negative things I can think about are:
1) The score needed some more attention.
2) It was somewhat short...I wanted more!

Looks good, Anders! I'll agree with manossg, the score needs some attention... there are collisions all over it.

I would also question the use of the mordents (m.18, 50, 67) as old fashioned... I would write out the rhythmic figure instead.

Also, the on-the-beat grace notes in m.35/36/37... did you mean these to be before the beat? If they're on the beat, spare the player and simply write out the rhythm you want. If they are supposed to be before the beat, you need to put slashes on the grace notes' stem to indicate that.

Is this part of a larger piece? I'd love to see you use more of the chalumeau register.

I think it's fine. But more chalumeau? How about a nice resounding lowest written E after the last note, with the bell facing up?

While touching up the score, don't forget the put the pedal markings below the bass/left hand stave, you almost never put pedal markings in between the two staves.

I rather enjoyed this, it was random. In a fun way. The notes seemed easier than they sounded (taking in consideration the necessary transposition), so that makes up for the tricky polyrhythms. As a clarinetist, I like the clarion register over the chalumeau, so I'm rather happy with the range and tonal coverage in this piece. . As a pianist, I think I would have a hard time learning it.

While I apreciate your comment, I don't really understand why you called it random...

I'm trying to give all the registers equal exposure in my revision. Been checkin' out Brahms' sonatas for inspiration.. they're scrumptious! Thankfully I got a hold of the scores before IMSLP closed down.
