By battle hymn to you mean this plays during battles? If that's the case, the only thing I would point out is that the intensity starts dropping off just before halfway, and goes past halfway before picking back up again. But if it isn't a battle theme then I don't guess that would matter. Awesome job either way.

I don't think it matters if it doesn't stay up on the top level the whole song. in my experience, it makes sort of a hypnotic effect when you are battleing.

Also, this sounds like a boss battle to me, or am I dreaming. I know an exception would be if it was Baten Kaitos, in which all of the music is heavy and extremely intense, or is this one special?

I think the beginning could be a little more subtle... like maybe a really long (or short) wind up leading to the main theme.

What is the instrumentation? I always like to know. (You don't have to say... just a pet peeve of mine)

Overall, I would say pick up the pace a tad. Great Job. Hope the rest of the soundtrack is as succesful!

You know, you got me thinking with this. I've always considered the priority with game music to be to portray a particular relevant mood, but it would probably make more sense to try to evoke this mood from the listener than try to force it upon them. I still don't know if I'd go with a "hypnotic effect" with a battle theme, but I guess that's just a common difference of opinion or whatever there.

a) get it played with a real band at least, the midi really does it no justice. Even a real guitar would help 100%.

b) someone's been listening to the LotR soundtrack.

c) it's highly competant as far as this "genre" of music goes but I must question the desire to marry an orchestra to heavy metal. It's awfully clichéd and has a history of serving very little purpose. Now if it was all experimental and the band and the orchestra interacted more then it might be more interesting, but from what I can see, it's basically just savouring the POWER of having an orchestra accompany the band. Just for the sake of being EPIC, or that's of what it smacks to me.

Anyway, I guess if you like this stuff then fair enough, and it is well done.

I'll just never be a fan. It's not like a cross between classical and rock, it's just rock with extra (and unnecessary in my view) forces.
