Gateway to Dreams

Hey guys,

I totally forgot all about posting music here I feel so bad now but boy do I have some things to show you! Sorry to everybody who's been commenting my stuff and I haven't been responding back.

Now to this...

This piece is about seven minutes long... thats right seven minutes long. It even includes a pretty cool slow section!... I usually hate the way all my slow sections turn out but this one is not half bad! It begins with a familiar tune that I hope you'll recognize but I didn't use it much due to the whole "I didn't write it" concept.

This piece took me a good month and a half to compose but im pretty pleased with the outcome...

Again sorry to people who I haven't commented back yet but that aside I really hope you like Gateway to Dreams!

Ahhhh~~~~~ what a sweet lullaby at the beginning. What's the name of this lullaby? I can only sing this in another language which isn't English, therefore I don't know the name of this.
As for the piece, a month and a half for this piece is pretty worth it, as there are some parts which I really like, and I thought you orchestrated them really well. Let me break the piece down for you:

2:10~2:16, that is a really cool Middle Eastern theme(what instruments did you use here?), at first I thought that it would repeat itself later in the piece, since it fits the title really well (sounds all dreamy and such). Too bad it didn't.
At the part around 3:22, I felt that the piece could be a little softer, while you introduce the lullaby again.
4:37, nice effect you created there.
5:35, nice joyful theme, but it ended too quickly, I'd like to see it go on and have some variations.
6:00, I love the xylophone playing the glissandos. Adds something special rhythmically.
7:05~end, Awesome finale, but what's with the triangle "ting" at the end? Throw that away please.

I only downloaded the midi file, as I seldom give comments based on scores. This piece is a really nice piece. A month and a half of work is worth it. But I felt there were some good themes that should be repeated again. Anyway, good job on the composition, I enjoyed it.

Thanks for your kind comment! But before I start let me clear one thing up... the "ting" at the end in the triangle was really just for me. My midi player likes to stop right before the ending so I tricked it so that it would finish the piece and not play the "ting"... sorry about that haha.

As far as I know the lullaby is titled Lullaby by Brahms... if anybody knows a different name for this piece please let us know.
For the theme at 2:10-2:16... I concidered putting that theme somewhere else before the minor section was over but befoe I knew it it was in Major then it was the end of the piece haha. I will definitly try to find a spot in the music that makes since for that theme though!

I know it's by Brahms. Just curious if there is any name other than "Lullaby", and is there any lyrics. Seems like it does not. Good luck in your future compositions.

Interesting...Very impressive.

You know the only thing that stayed in my head when I was listening to this song, was the Reflections of Earth song from the Epcot Firework Show, at Disney World.

This song HAD to be inspired somehow by that song, or a similar one.

Vedy NICE!

Its original title is just that, "Wiegenlied" (lullaby in german). And yes, it does have lyrics. It's quite a popular folk song in germany. ("Guten Abend, gut' Nacht, mit Rosen bedacht" is all I remember right now though.)

Good peice of music! I would love to hear this in coherance with a scene in a video game!

However, I do feel that is is too heavy on the woodwinds and the percussion. UI would love to hear some strings in this peice!

On the other hand, you use these instruments so fluently to create some phenominal rhythmic patterns that create what I like to call that "sensational feeling" of adventure and high spirits!

I love it!

Alan
