Ghost House - Lyrics by Robert Frost

A song I wrote. It's stranger than most things I write (but not dissonant!) It has a strange structure. I may have a live recording up in a couple of months.

Comments appreciated!

Yes.. heh its not "the usual", but it is very good. I really like it. The soprano is WELL accompanied by the piano. There was a very nice theme. Dissonance was tasteful. The only thing I have to complain about is the parallel fifths. Other than that, it was great. keep up the good work!

Dan, some really good things. My only beef is with the score: dynamic markings for voice should actually be placed above the staff simply for the reason that it doesn't interfere with the lyrics. For ease of singing, it would also be better to slur the notes during melismatic passages, too. The ending also seems a bit sudden: was that intended? I'm wondering if adding a ritardando would be more effective there, or perhaps lengthening that portion a bit.

Other than that, it's a great piece. Thanks for sharing.

At one point I had a long drawn-out ending, but it was getting corny. So I changed it to that, and yes, it should have a rit. But since I've performed it with these dancers and had to play the drawn out ending, I've improved it, and may go back to it. I like it better - if I ever get up the work ethic to go back in and change it.

Thanks, Becker

I'm told by an inside source that this song gets will probably get an honorable mention, which means it will be performed and there will be a live recording up in a while...

Honorable mention. A nice way of saying "you're good enough that you get to practice up to be on the concert, but not as good as the guys who bang on the piano!"

My opera may win either 1st or 2nd place because the judge who received it thought it was funny. I'm not holding my breath - one recent winner won with a symphony on 1 chord for about 10 minutes.

Edit: This post sounds really ungrateful. Sorry.
