"Gigallegro!" For flute and piano

This piece was completed in 2007 and submitted to the Cleveland Flute Society for their annual contest. It won the selection and was performed by Rebecca Chan and yours truly at the piano. You can watch the performance on youtube clicking on the link:

YouTube - Gigallegro! by Lorenzo Salvagni

It's not the greatest performance but it gives the idea...
Let me know what you think! Enjoy

This is seriously one of the most beuatiful and fantastic pieces of music I've ever heard, and I really did not expect that to be what I would find when I signed up here earlier today! I'm absolutely astounded by the crafting in this and the marvellous intuition for where the music wants to go... among thousands of other things I'm not technically proficient enough to comment on. But this piece is stunning in my estimation.

I'm a really, really big fan of Dutilleux (probably my favourite composer), and the first piece of his I really got into was the Sonate for Oboe and Piano. Later I hear his flute Sonatine; this reminds me most of both of those pieces, in the wonderful melodic intensity coupled with harmony that's somewhere in between the English pastoral, French impressionism and more chromatic/atonal c.20th stuff. And your piano writing!! Is amazing, I wish I was good enough to play this because I would be doing nothing else for weeks lol. Like I said, I really didn't expect I would find a piece of music here that literally blew me away, but I did.

I'm normally not so up for the idea of having other people look at my (very immature) compositions, but I would actually, truly be honoured if you'd look through the Oboe Sonata I wrote recently (when I work out how to post it I guess). When I heard your piece it fit so well into my visions of how I want to be writing in ten years' time (or whenever, lol). But yeah, thank you, what a stunning piece (so great to have a recording as well).

Thank you so much for your kind words! I know very well Dutilleux's Sonatine; French composers in general always had a strong influence on my writing. "Gigallegro!" received very positive reviews so far, which makes me happy and humbled at the same time. I will be happy to listen to your piece! Welcome to YC by the way, I am a newbie myself since I signed only two days ago! More music to come... Ciao
