Heart, We Will Forget Him!

Hey again.

This is my newest choral piece. It is a setting of "Heart, We Will Forget Him!" by Emily Dickinson for SSA Chorus.

This was probably one of my easiest pieces to write. The music just seemed to flow from my hand. I finished this piece in probably about a day.

The biggest thing about this piece is the rests. It's the moments of silent grief.

The midi is a little slow but thats midi for you.

Comments are appreciated.

Thanks

Price Walden

Some nice things going on here. But I think for an unacomp. chorus, it felt a little to random. The rest were just long. A live performance may help for the real idea of how it sounds but it just doesn't flow like it wants to.

At first I thought that this was my thread, since I also did a setting of Heart We Will Forget Him! It's interesting to see the differences in the music between our settings.

I know you were trying for something with the rests, but I don't think it worked. The piece felt like it was stopping and starting too much, no flow. Also, there seemed to be little connection between the sections. They didn't even contrast that much.

My biggest problem is that you added words that are not in the poem originally. I don't know where you got your version of the poem, but there is no "Oh, heart my heart".

I know there is no "Oh heart my heart." I just added that for dramatic effect. But I don't think it takes away from the poems beauty any.

I like it, and yes the MIDI is slow, but please, please, take out the empty measures. It's easy enough to mark for a pause before the measures where you want it, and sometimes a full measure of silence is effective, but not so often. I feel like you just wanted a little pause before those measures.

a simple cesura, or "railroad tracks" will suffice.
Please take our advice.
