I've written this piece for my AS-Level music coursework and I've been told its good but I want to know what other people think of it. It's in MIDI format because I don't want to use the mp3. Cheers[attachmentid=1770]

Welcome to the forum, Seraph: let me tell you what I think about your piece...

Perhaps I'll develop it more, because I haven't got to the part where the strings come in, but you seem to be quite good at crafting melodies: the instrumentation fits perfectly, but I think the guitar harmony could be better: because it could be more full. Also, some notes in the guitar don't really match the woodwind's melody very well: when you're in C minor's dominant (G minor) before going back to C, the flute plays a G4, and the guitar plays a succesion of notes where a B-flat is included. That will sound exactly as in a G minor piece. In order to give the feeling of a phrase end, you should use B-natural there (a half step from B-natural to C-natural.) Notice how the flute's G and the guitar's B-natural match much more better than G and B-flat: that will sound like a G minor chord, not a C Seventh Chord. This happens a lot more times during the piece.

Many people here complain they are not very good melodic/thematic composers: you are not one of those: if you can match your melodies with harmonies and form of equal quality, then you got it!
