Insights into Transience for Trumpet and Piano

Jamie Whitmarsh - Stage.FM

Just go to Insights into Transience.

Essentially, this piece is a study into the transition of late Autumn into Early Winter. I wrote this piece over Christmas break my freshman year of college. I have plans to do an entire year of seasons, looping back to Autumn. Currently, I am working on the second one, for Violin, Viola, Cello, Clarinet, Harp, and Percussion, exploring the transition from Winter to Spring.

Thanks,
J Whitmarsh

Is this recorded? It sounds very realistic.

I like it a lot. The two instruments really work well together. I think its about 1 minute in, a tempo change is really nice.

I don't know what else to say, not too experienced to be honest. I can't really find any obvious faults.

Good luck with the other pieces, I really look foward to hearing them! I could listen to this piece all day

It is indeed recorded. There were two performances that week: one at Music Assembly (our weekly student recital) and one at our composition concert (which we have 3-5 a year.)
This was the concert recording, I think. There were a few more messups in this one (they get kind of lost in the second movement and part of the first) but the third went over quite well, I think.

Any more comments would be appreciated.

wow kudos to the composer and the performers! very nice work. i love music that is inspired by nature and you surely painted a vivid picture with your composition pen. i really wasnt bothered by the occasional flub-up as i was too wrapped up in the world you created. i especially liked the tempo change at about 2:30-ish with the piano. i also agree that the 2 instruments worked very well together. i cant wait for more, again nice job

Yay, chamber music for trumpet, this should be encouraged!

A score would help us give you better comments...

The piece is good, I believe you captured the mood you were going for quite succesfully. I like the contrast between the more moody and lighter sections.

The use of mute was appropriate I believe, it gives a nice moody tone.

If I had a score a would be able to say more.

Good work.

A very nice concept. You don't usually come across a piece that trys to depict the middle of one season transitioning into another. I think the ideas was quite nice.

I definitely felt the late Autumn within the music. Am I right if I say that the early winter transition happens a couple minutes from the end?

As I listend, I wasn't quite sure if I sensed any kind of unifying development with any theme or motif throughout, I could be wrong.

Anyway, I enjoyed the piece and I'll be looking out for your other seasons.
