Introducing "The Dirty Three"

I would be pretty surprised if anyone has actually heard of these guys. They are a trio band from Australia who have been around about 15 years I think.

Anyhow, its drums, guitars and an electric violin - no vocals. I have seen them play live a few times and they are a pretty good act. They are known in "alternative" music circles by some people, but still not that popular. Have varying styles ranging from loud, manic songs to quiet and peaceful ballads. Classical purists might take offence at the flamboyant playing of the violinist, but I still love it. Here a couple of youtube clips...

Loud song ... make sure you at least listen till the violin comes in at about 1 min
YouTube - i remember a time when once you used to love me -dirty three

Quiet song...
YouTube - hope - dirty three

They don't sound too interesting, in my opinion. You can try John Zorn's Masada, for a more folkish character, but with a few contemporary (jazzy) elements as well:
