My metal band does stuff like this all the time. We have a song in 11/4 that divided 3+3+3+2, so it starts out sounding like a waltz but then has a climactic "DAH-dah" at the end of each measure.
By the way, the coolest time signature ever is 25/4 divided into 5+7+5+8, divided further into 3+2+3+2+2+3+2+3+3+2.
