Count me in. I'm not totally sure I can get something done in time but I will try.

Possible to make the pieces anonymous somehow? Maybe send them all to one person, then that one person distributes them to all the judges and the judges report their scores back to that one person who then tallies the scores?

Of course, then everybody would have to make sure they're name isn't on the score anywhere...
I always have mine at least twice, I'm afraid of music stealers...

at least twice,

I will steal your music

But good idea to make it anonymous though!

I like that system.....just don't have any name on the score (easy enough to do in Finale, for sure, and other notation programs, I'm assuming), and send all the files to one person, who will reveal the identities at the end of the judging. This ensures any favoritism is absent and it's the music alone that is judged. I'm not saying there would be any favoritism, but I'd say it's better to be safe than sorry .

damn good idea. The person we send it to will have to know whose is whose though won't they? Otherwise how can he reveal the winner at the end? How do we get round that?

Edit: Am I asking too many questions? XD

Just have someone not in the contest do it, who's a relatively frequent member and is trustworthy and all that.

Any volunteers?

It could work like this: each participant sends their entry to the foreman, who would then obviously know whose are whose, and he can post all their entries in anonymity. The judges then send their scores to the foreman, who tallies, and announces the winner. Maybe we could also have a public poll, where any and all YC members can vote and the winner of the poll will have a couple bonus points added to his/her total (nothing big, of course), since there are only a handful of judges and such represent the views and opinions of only those few people. That last one is just a random idea I had.

^I like that idea. Could the poll be abused by participants though?

Yes, but we could simply ask the participants to not to vote for themselves and trust them. We have (for the most part) quite mature people on these forums.

I will enter, although I have to write an opera this month so I'm not 100% sure I'll have anything for you in the end! Is this ok?
I don't mind 50 instruments, but make SURE you know how to orchestrate it properly, or you will be graded off.

Yes:
It will be out of 100 points:
1. Formatting (Like, proper scoring, neatness etc. UNmessy scores) - 20 Points.
2. Theme (is it strong, does it say, "I am a THEME!") - 20 Points.
3. Variations (Are there at least 4? Are they of good length, do they actually VARY on the theme?) - 40 Points (ten per variation).
4. Report on Variations (See instructions...) - 20 Points.
