Doesn't mean you can't submit the piece. If I had more time I would have made a better piece too, but there's something called deadlines.

Jesus, will everyone calm the fuck down? You can't start harping that the contest is clearly a bust when we still have TWO DAYS UNTIL THE DEADLINE. I, for one, fully intend to submit something - I'd just like to take all the time I'm given to tweak, perfect, and polish. And just because this contest has a rolling submission policy rather than putting up all of the submissions at once (I. E., AFTER THE DEADLINE) doesn't mean I can't take that libery.

Exactly!

Hey, M_is_D, is everything ok? As soon as I mentioned that I won't be marking the compositions if I don't get more compositions submitted you suddenly became very angry that your composition will not be graded. You seem more interested in winning than learning. A victory in a semi-competitive environment such as YC, or in any environment really, has absolutely no value if you don't learn from it. You don't only learn from losing, you learn from winning as well.

Now, if you're not interested in learning, I am not interested in writing a review for you. And it will be a pity, because I've already started writing a review which has reached 6 pages already and I haven't touched 3 of the criteria yet. So, if you think you're angry that you spent some time writing this composition hoping you'll win in this competition and you won't because the other people haven't submitted their pieces, then imagine how finding out that you are not interested in reviews will make me feel after writing that lengthy review of your piece.

That's a funny thing to hear, at least from you, since you submitted the piece only 5 hours after Morivou opened the submission thread... You did have more time, in fact you had 18 days, which is something more than two weeks and a half, to make your piece better. So can I assume that you consider your piece perfect? If so, then I will be a bit more strict in my marking. If not, then I will also be stricter because it means you neglected your composition, as you had an extra two weeks to make it better but you didn't.

Please make sure you behave yourself and don't just swear at people like that. You only make it worse for yourself and social skills is half the job in the artistic world. It's not just talent.

I think this can be said for all competitors, please understand that we are not looking for WINNERS VS. LOSERS here. We are trying to gain a better understanding of music (the judges also) and to learn. Being pompous in anyway, even not meaning to, can be detrimental to the score.

To Tomas:
I too, if I had not already reviewed the piece and sent it to you (with no response from you with so much as a thanks or even something regarding the comments) would have graded the piece lower and been much harsher on my comments. PLEASE be more careful in the future. You don't want to loose any of our respects, do you?

In fact, I entered so I could have to reason to write something. That's why I participate in these things, it's inspiration, and it's pressure, it helps me keep writing when I'm stuck with writer's block. Whether I get to have my piece 'compared' to the other entries is not my greatest concern, neither is finishing in time, as long as I'm happy with what I created. That said, the pressure is on for me to finish my piece, and same goes to the rest of you who haven't submitted, I'd love to see what everybody has come up with.

I apologize for continuing this discussion in the submissions thread, let's try to keep the discussion contained to the other threads, not here, this place is for submissions only and the important matters thereof. I will hope that this sort of trend will not continue into the next round.

A Dev never tells a lie, and thus I present to you: A PRESENT

Mp3: Box.net - Free Online File Storage, Internet File Sharing, Online Storage, Access Documents & Files Anywhere, Backup Data, Send Files

PDF: [attached] (best viewed at 140%)

Instrumentation: Violin, viola, cello, and double bass, all with parts I and II (BUT THEY ARE ON THE SAME STAFF!), solo violin, and percussion.

Description:
Intro - Theme in four in b minor
Section A - In three with percussion
Section B - Key change to d minor, in 6/8
Section C - Jazzy syncopated ridiculous pizzicato in four
Section D - In E Major, slow chorale style in three

The theme itself is just a short little kinda movie theme-ish line, which is original, but nothing special.

About me: I'm a stylish man about town. I've taken basic music theory class and have played percussion in concert band for uh...well this is my eighth year, as a senior in high school. Also did marching band for 4 years, on the drumline.

I haven't seen him indicate this, but Morivou tells me we can post our pieces ANY time on February 1st, no set hour. So if anybody else has anything, GET THEM IN.

You mean sixteen people committed to this and only four so far have pulled through? (I'm the fourth, I am VERY near done, there's this one damn transition I can't smooth out...)
