[attachmentid=1140]I have been a jazz musician for a terrifying number of years. Now I have started to write stuff. Somebody please tell me if it has any merit whatsoever !
This looks like it could be a cool forum if people can really assist each other with constructive criticism and support. Thanx for listening.

Very nice!
First off, I don't talk too much about the good parts when criticising, for various reasons. So don't get upset if I (or others who share my mentality) only talk about the bad parts
I don't know much about jazz, I'm mainly a classical pianist. However, it sounds like the drums are too repetitive. And there might be a bit more room for development in terms of variation. Perhaps give the bass a solo, with the piano providing a chord or two every chord change?

Thanks for showing an interest. The internet is awash with music and musicians - hard to take it all in !
Your criticisms are absolutely valid from the point of view of it being a finished work, but in it's current form it is just intended as a 'demo' - a melody, counterpoint bass part, and a set of harmonic changes to be presented to a band for them to interpret as they like.
Having just discovered this forum I may now take care to polish up any future submissions to a higher standard !
