Ah, sounds like I assumed wrong then. To be honest I've never read any statement of Varèse on melody. I merely based my assumption off the point that Varèse wanted to establish a music consisting of timbral change in contrast to the common standard of melodic lines. I wasn't aware that he considered this timbral rhythm a melody.

Oh, and Young Prodigy: I didn't find your rhythm too simple. But maybe it's not "thematic" enough, to replace the whole field of timbral variation. If it's supposed to be a whole piece on it's own, it would be nice to see rhythmic development, or another way of creating a greater form out of rhythmic ideas. Of course if it's just a percussion solo within a greater piece that's less important.
