Logic for Cello, Violin, Celesta, Piano, Xylophone and Glockenspiel

This is something I wrote that didnt start off as a very serious composition, but actually came out sounding kinda good.

It's a repetitative, sort-of minimalist inspired piece with a lot of rhythmically interweaving layers.

The score just has the main parts written out, not all the repetitions.

Feedback is welcome, especially on the form/structure, even though I want it to be sort of "static" and repetitaive, I'm not sure how effectively I did that. Maybe I need to stretch the piece out some more or something.

It's a nice enough piece of music, but goes nowhere (not sure if that was the intention) I think stretching it out would help a lot. As well as adding in some sort of ending.

I agree with Wade. It’s really nice, but it seems far from complete.

To me it kind of sounds like the consciousness of the cosmos awakening. It’s very profound and moving, but instills a feeling of being only the intro to a great symphony that never materializes.

Keep writing on it for another 10 or 15 minutes of music and hopefully it will evolve into something really profound.

That piece was really cool. I agree with basically everything else that has been said already... I also think it would be cool to have a whole orchestra come in and deveop it from there. Anyways, great job, and good luck.

Rather daunting...

I for one enjoyed this piece. It's very similar to how I write... a sort of clash of the repetition of minimalism and classical melodies coming together, buildind all the time. It definately cuts off rather awkwardly however, and either a crescendo ending or a soft fade-away would work fine in my opinion.

Yes, I think this is a very cool start. I also agree that this needs some work and should be extended. The problem I see is that we have developed this entire piece on one harmonic plane. I think you should eventually open the piece up a little bit by modulating or just simply breaking out of the one chord that everything is based on. I think it would be awesome if you modulated between major chord bases towards the end of what you have written so far and then used that to vault into an awesome melody that included some movement harmonically.

Thanks for all the kind comments, I don't know when I'll get round to working on this again (I've got a few other things I want to work on and finish) but I don't think I've really got another 10 minutes of this piece in me well I'll see what happens anyway...

Start off simple... if you don't feel you've got anything to offer the piece, use modulation, or change the key the piece is in. Sometimes the simplest things can be the most effective.

nice piece really, lovely instumentation and atmosphere. i agree with other commentors regarding structure and duration. it perfectly may last some time more with just slight variation or adornment - and get a decent end please
