No more worries, the mystery is solved, I have found the piece through Melodyhound: Search within the Music

and it turns out that it's not even a beethoven piece, but Arvo Pärt's Spiegel im Spiegel.

It's still a very nice tranquil piece, I suggest checking it out on youtube.

That's it. It was used as the poignant soundtrack to the BBC documentary 'Auschwitz: The Nazis and 'The Final Solution''. It reminds me quite a lot of the arias from 'Songs of Sadness', but I can't for the life of me remember who wrote them.
