Red face Lullaby from Midsummer Night's Dream

Ah, my first time posting a piece here.

Lullaby WIP - Putfile.com

I wrote this for a close friend (my mother) who is directing a production of shakespear's midsummer night's dream. At this point in the play the fairys are singing a lullaby to thier queen. It's going to be sung by a group of children and a couple of teenagers. The words are:

Spotted snakes with double tongue,
Thorny hedgehogs, be not seen;
Newts and blind-worms, do no wrong,
Come not near our fairy queen.

Philomel, with melody
Sing in our sweet lullaby;
Lulla, lulla, lullaby, lulla, lulla, lullaby:
Never harm,
Nor spell nor charm,
Come our lovely lady nigh;
So, good night, with lullaby. lu-la lullaby

Weaving spiders, come not here;
Hence, you long-legg'd spinners, hence!
Beetles black, approach not near;
Worm nor snail, do no offence.

Philomel, with melody
Sing in our sweet lullaby;
Lulla, lulla, lullaby, lulla, lulla, lullaby:
Never harm,
Nor spell nor charm,
Come our lovely lady nigh;
So, good night, with lullaby. lu-la lullaby

^ I had a similar feeling. That's only because of the style that it's been written to though. I've heard pieces like it before but not very often so those ones sound very similar in my mind.

So its not a bad thing and you havnt unwittingly ripped off someone else I dont think!

I liked the piece. I was in a performance of A Midsummer Night's Dream a few months ago and, me being me, wondered what parts of it would be like in musical form. You have answered that question. It fit very well to the source material, was again well written and fit nicely - especially given the structure you had to work with. Good job.
