[b]I may be reaching the point where I will have said all I personally can say in a Classical idiom.* Am I outgrowing it, finally? I never thought that day would come.*
This is total speculation, but well, the dances project of yours was a lot all at once, wasn't it? Maybe you're just in need of a break? * shrugs * I know that when I'm in a period pretty devoid of inspiration I stop feeling like a composer at all, let alone a classicist or whatever the heck it is that I am. * grins *

Either way, it sounds pretty good to me as a fan of your music, though. (As with the others, I really like this sketch here - and of course I like your older work, as well.)

Now, onto my contribution. (This is a really neat project, by the way. I can't believe how differently all these turned out despite being based on the same theme! It's great!) Did this in half an hour at 1 AM last night. I used a string quartet just because that's the ensemble I've been thinking in terms of lately (I'm 3/4 of the way through a piece for it in F). It's really weird listening to this, because I can tell I wrote the harmony, but the melody definitely isn't mine. It must be like having kids.

Anyway:

I just stuck to the rules and made a simple harp solo out of the melody, nothing special. Used the most cliché 7th chord on the pre-final note, and my mind somehow forced me to add a final bassnote.. it's horrible but sorry, couldn't help it . Let me know what you think of it.

note: The MIDI definately shows how chords do NOT sound on a harp.

EDIT: ... The forum kept telling me that I couldn't upload a file with the .MIDI extenstion , I've renamed it to a .txt. Download it and change the extension back to .MIDI to listen.

Marisa...I don't know how I missed your variation heretofore, but that's some nice string writing.

I liked rhythmic the countermelody in yours, Franz.

Thanks! I had a really good time coming up with it.

Now, if only I felt as immediately inspired by any of the other melodies...ah well. I'll keep them lying around on my desktop and see whether they randomly evolve at some point.

And yeah - yours is nifty, Frantz. I really like the buildup to the ending.
