Melody #23

Hi all,

Currently working on the 4th movement of my short string quartet, which you can check out in the chamber forum if you like. Here is the central two melodies from the fourth movement back to back. Nothing like the first three -but I am in a different mood now Hopefully you enjoy them. Since I have started reading more about theory and am trying to yeah, organize my pieces a little more, please provide critical/theoretical feedback to the melody and/or the fourth movement when it is completed and posted. Thanks

Regards
Pravin

wow Pravin this one is absolutely fascinating! i must say that i hesitated for long time in working on it because it has such strong character! at first i wasn't able to figure how i could add anything to it without ruining its beauty i listened to it many times as a solo and it sounded sooooooooooo fine without any accompaniment!

but then any fear vanished ahahahhh................

wow, us three seem to have taken over this forum don't we!

I love this melody! Definitely the best melody I've heard from you upstart, can't wait to hear the string quartet when it's finished!

Frantz, just listening to your first one, like the feel you've gone for, it's kind of opposite what i would've gone for but the instrumentation fits beautifully.

Second one: More what i would've been thinking of doing but a lot better than i could've done it! Like the atmospheric feel. What do you use to make all of your mp3s?

Might have a pop at this in a bit, I'll have to transcribe it though, bloody notepad and it's lack of midi compatability!

Hey guys,

Haha, yeah I've always thought its great that noone seems to bother us in this part of the forum. I love it how people overlook ot - you don't end up getting all of that unnescessarily harsh criticism either

Thanks for the comments about my melody! I look forward to posting the finished movement which I think will be my proudest composition to date. Exams around the corner so don't know whether I should pump it out and have it over and done with, or leave it bugging me for the next three weeks....you'll find out in the next few horus if I decide to post anything

I love your versions as well Frantz! I find your style very unorthodox but it has such a charm to it. Like Mark said, its very unlike how I or he would imagine it, but it has this wonderful atmosphere, both with the instruments chosen and the endless overlapping and reintroduction of certain phrases into the harmonies. It almost has a canonical feel to it. I like how the contrapuntal melodies seem to fall over each other and then resolve at certain points. You lose a sense of time and place listening to your music. It is like stepping into 'Frantz Land' I hope that comes off more as a compliment than a facetious comment lol. Thanks for posting so quickly!

Hey Mark, I use noteworthy composer, so If you like I can copy paste the melody for you onto the website - but since I have still not started using Finale or Sibelius, the only score I can post is the same version of score you would see if you opened a midi using Finale or Sibelius. If you have noteworthy composer message back, It'll save you lots of time transcribing!

Thanks again guys - speak to you soon. All the best,

Regards
Pravin

P.S
Frantz I was checking out your website and saw the little section you had about the 'Upstart Suite'! I'm totally flattered! I'm not sure how many people come to visit your website or whether it is just personal storage but your words were very touching so thank you! Lol, we have formed quite a composer's bond, you and I Speak to you later

To have 'a pop' is a british phrase meaning to have a go, sorry, i keep forgetting that this is an international community!

I'm going to some time but i need a short one first that won't take long to transcribe as bloody notepad won't import midi. Which melody (preferably an Upstart creation) would you recommend?

Actually, what about question #1, do we have a finished melody for that?

Mark
