Hey Guys,

Here's my harmonization of the melody. I wish I could get the instruments to sound better, but with a real orchestra plus violin soloist playing the theme on the expressive G String, I think it could work well. Let me know what you think.

-Mike

PS: Any string players that could help with the bowings I've put in my file. I am still learning about this and I wonder if what I did would work well with an orchestra.

Does anyone know how to change channels in Finale on the playback list because I try to change it and then it changes all the string parts to the same channel; in other words, it won't let me have independent channels for the string orchestra.
Hi Mike,

To fix this you need to create a new instrument. Go to Window->Instrument List and scroll down to your strings. You'll see that it has it split into columns (Staff Name, Vol, Pan, etc). Look for the column entitled "Instrument" and for any of them, click the pulldown menu. Scroll to the top of it and click "New Instrument."

Here you can define a name (for example Strings 2) and then choose a different channel. You also need to specify the General MIDI patch that will be used, in your case String Ensemble 1. When you're finished, click ok and you're good to go!

Hope this helped.

Brilliant harmonization btw!

Mike, that's just lovely.

Pretty soon I'll reveal the source of that melody. But the variety you've already come up with on this very simple series of notes is amazing.

Indeed, yet it's more harmonically adventurous. If Chopin had lived until 1889, perhaps!

Correct, but this piece is written in 2005 after all!
