Here's mine, for woodwind sextet.

Flute, Oboe, Bb Clarinet, Bass Clarinet, Bb Tenor Saxophone, and Contrabassoon (yes, a weird ensemble...)

Am I allowed to say what the melody reminds me of?

neuhausen, I really like your choice of chords!

Here's my attempt at the melody, though I suppose i cheated because I altered the melody here and there. Pls forgive, as I'm relatively new to this, I still can't always bend my impulses to accomodate the constraints...

I still haven't figured out how to create a midi output with sibelius... Could someone pls help me make a midi of this and post it here? MM=76 to a crochet would be suitable i think.

Thanks!

Ok, here's my effort.

Very simplistic piano arrangement, but my excuse is that I'm at work at the moment!

Got away with it though.

Hope someone likes it.

That was fun.

Well, this is my try. A waltz, isn't it?

Very cool!

Adam, I'm not sure what you were doing with all that deep bass stuff in the middle... ...but yours was one of the most unique renditions yet.

And Bach88, I have to wonder if you remember this tune somewhere in your subconscious mind, because in the first 4 measures or so, you came closest to the composer's original harmonisation and voicing...very close indeed...before you went your own way. And actually, no, it's not a waltz, though the metre might suggest it.

I think the time has come to reveal just what this piece is. I'm a little surprised no-one placed it...it's from a very famous work, one of the most important pieces in its genre ever written. I've long found this melody, shall we say, emotionally compelling - and apparently each of you did too in your own wonderfully personal ways.

This is the beginning of the Andante un poco mosso from the Piano Trio in B-flat D899 by Franz Schubert (1797-1828). Yep...you've been writing variants on a theme by Schubert, and congratulations on doing so with such applomb.

If you'd like to hear the original in situ, you'll find the MP3 here: http://rapidshare.de/files/5424067/Schuber...flat_2.mp3.html
It's a fairly big file, but worth the download...and the movement itself will be 10 of the best minutes you've spent in a while, I promise you that.

Enjoy, and thanks for participating. This isn't closed...others may still take a try at it if they like.

I surely know the original, it's a beautifull piece indeed.
Coincidentily, I recently (some months ago) heard it in a concert!
Great theme

Hi. I'm new in the forum. I've just registered today, so... hello

I don't know the rules exactly so well, here is my MIDI file. Its just a little piano comping and a 2nd melody line in the background.

Fortunately i did not read J. Lee Graham post revealing where the melody was taken from until i finished my MIDI file. I know it's a bit late but i've just registered and i really had to do this, so please tell me what you think. Any kind of comments are welcome.

Please excuse my bad english.

Whoa! A jazz version! Very cool.

And don't worry about your English...it's fine.
