middle age music

hear and citisise
zSHARE - mittelalterkram.mp3

maybe i will sing, but im not shure. if i sing, that will be the text:

it rather sounds renaissance or late gothic than medieval if you don't count the congas, bongos and shakers of course. what can I say? I don't really see the point composing renaissance music in 2008. I think the approximately 200 original composers of that era bring more than enough to the table, don't you think? why a fake if we have the real thing? we should invent the music of our age and stop miming ages extinct long ago...

Well I can't really agree with this... especially since this style is neither medieval nor renaissance. You do use modal harmonies and avoid the dominant-tonic relationship inherent to the leading tone. But that sort of modality is closer to what today we call modality in late romantic music and jazz. Medieval and early Renaissance modality (which are also two very different things) don't even really have "chords" the way we think of them today; your accompaniments betray a chordal mindset. Admittedly the standard pop progressions like I IV V I were already popular in folkloric music halfway through the Renaissance, and have persisted into popular music today!

That said, I am guessing you were aiming for the modern medieval feel more than the historical style. In that case, it's nice! It reminds me of the background music from Age of Empires...
