My brother wrote this piece as well (see Rapid Descent in Incidental.)

This song, Midnight in the Carribean, is actually a remake of the same song, written when we did yet have the full version of FL Studio and could not save the file. So this version you hear is an expanded one.

I already listed the instrument above below the title. The wave FX could easily be removed for a chamber group.

It took my brother about one and a half hours to write this. No special techniques that I am aware of.

Enjoy. I personally love this one. (As a reminder, I did not write it, so I am NOT bragging about myself.

There's a lot that could be said about this but I'll keep it as short as I can.

It's a nice piece - just long enough - possibly midnight at a beach party, not the strange, scented quiet of just the night though. I've visited a couple of the islands and one was quite eerie if you listened hard around midnight with no parties going on!

Can I ask what inspired the piece? It's a cross between festival and pop, Trinidad obviously from the steel pans, but the bass is almost Jamaican reggae (of the modern sort but looking back on dub). I suppose it could be soca.

What's great about the Caribbean is the sheer amount of music, the amalgam of so many cultures, so this piece could pass as a general impression, techno-Carib maybe! I doubt the sea fx contributed a great deal tho. A glass (or two) of Jamaican rum would have gone down well.

Tell bro' it's fine!

Well, we've never actually been to the Carribean... I'll have to ask him what the inspiration was.

I myself am Caribbean so I will try to give you my impression of this piece.

My first thought is that this piece is more "trying" to be Caribbean. The ideas are there but
the "Caribbean soul" is missing. The thing that makes indigenous music
what it is, is the combinations of melodic construction, rhythm, and harmonic workings all working
effectively. There are a few things going on in this piece that will work well if reworked a bit.
Also the pattern of repetition will make a difference as well.

I hope you don't think I'm saying the piece isn't any good or anything. I just think it needs to
be reworked a little.
I think your brother should listen to Reggae, Soca, Calypso, even Salsa and Merengue
are forms of Caribbean music. It will be good to see what makes them what they are, what makes these forms similar and different.

The piece is on its way, just needs tweaking in a few areas.
