Miniatures for Solo Flute

PDF

This is a piece I wrote last spring, this recording is from it's "premiere" back this past August. I've since made revisions to the score so don't mind slight difference between the recording and certain things in the score.

EDIT: PDF file works now

I'll tell you what I think! I think that you should be a bit more patient to the posts to come.

Looking at the score and listening as I post.

Generally I like it a lot. I can't say that the performance is towards my taste completely, but the piece is.

It is rather difficult to keep interest in a solo instrument, with no accompaniament, but you pulled it off, so my hat's of to you dear sir!

The score has a very few 'sloppy' mistakes which shouldn't take more than 1-2 minutes to fix. page 3-4, the first system in page 4 could fit in page 3, since it bellongs to the II. lament, and not the rhythm (III). Some dynamics and crescentos clash, but nothing else really. Also you don't indicate where the accel ends, as well as some rit. here and there, which could be a bit confusing to anyone without you on their side.

I comment on the score, which is more objective than commenting on the music, which I did like so...

Thanks for sharing.

Heh, sorry about that. I was just a bit annoyed that "Raggedy Hymen" had more going on than what I posted.

I'm going to have it re-recorded soon with a better player (grad student..) before I start putting together a portfolio for grad school admissions. The girl I wrote this for is a GREAT player, but it seems what I excel at were her weaknesses (rhythm, which is a huge part of this piece). Also she's a sophomore at FSU, I also have reason to believe she was not as prepared as she should have been. But it's no big deal.[/quote]

Thanks for pointing these things out, it's hard so hard to proofread your own scores!

And thank you for your comments, glad you liked it

The link for the score doesn't work. So I have to provide half a review.

Well, this was a truly enjoyable piece. The performance wasn't bad... I liked especially the slow, middle part. Very expressive...

I believe this works perfectly for a solo instrument work. Congartulations.
