Hey voce.
Ok so I liked the piece, it was nice. Nice harmony and what not, but I felt like it started to abruptly. Also you had such great motion in the beginning, and then you took it away and it didn't really come back. I just want to that motion explored and developed that.
It would be nice if you kinda keep the motion going because it was really great!!
I hate to give a kind of bad review, bit I just wanted to share that.
Keep up the good work!!

Scott.

Nice intro. Interesting change at :23. It doesn't feel like a minuet until :45. I am confused as to why you didn't end the piece with an authentic cadence. It doesn't seem finished.

Yeah... it doesn't seem like a minuet until the :45 section.

What do you mean when you say "feel like a minuet?"
What makes a minuet a minuet is the form, not the feeling. I didn't end it with an authentic cadence just because that's the sound I wanted.

yeah that's what i meant, the form. I didn't get the ABA feel until that mark... it seemed like ABCD to me... or whatever... Interesting choice to not end with an authentic cadence. Question: was it a plagal cadence at the end?

Wait, let me get this straight

A dance has nothing to do with the style, mood, rhythm or "feeling" of the music, it's the form that makes it....a dance. Umm...yeah, sure. Or...

Main Entry:
min·u·et Listen to the pronunciation of minuet
Pronunciation:
\ˌmin-yə-ˈwet\
Function:
noun
Etymology:
French menuet, from obsolete French, tiny, from Old French, from menu small, from Latin minutus
Date:
1672

1 : a slow graceful dance in 3⁄4 time characterized by forward balancing, bowing, and toe pointing 2 : music for or in the rhythm of a minuet

Or it could be that. You didn't write a minuet. No seriously, it isn't a minuet.

Now that we've gotten that out of the way, let's talk about the actual music. It's very incoherent, segmented and overall there is no real clarity in form, or any real type of statement. Infact, it sounds like 4 completely different pieces, which would ALMOST be passable if you wrote transitional material, but you didn't. There's no development, there isn't really anything here.

I want to begin this review with the word 'hmmm', which is never good news. You clearly have musical sense and a commendable desire to compose, but I think it might benefit you to go and listen to some minuets before attempting your own. It's perfectly acceptable to write a minuet that isn't traditional , but only once you have a clear understanding of what comprises one in the first place.

You might perhaps consider calling it something like 'Tempo di Minuetto' if you just want the tempo. . . . or 'Forma di Minuetto' if you just want the structure. But I think you'd find it more satisfying to write something that people would identify on hearing.
