Missa Solemnis for SSA and Piano

Hello everyone!!

This is my first attempt to write a music for SSA chorus. Although it named it as "Missa Solemnis," I did not follow the cantata procedure of the great composers of the past.

I believe that there are still many things that needs to be done to greatly improve the piece that is why your opinion is highly needed.

Hello and welcome to YC

Agnus Dei - A very pretty melody and I enjoyed the simplicity. I love how the harmony kinda snuck in from the unison, really nice.

Gloria - Catchy, reminds me of a christmas song in the beginning. The slower part was pretty. The trasitions were nice

Kyrie - Was nice...but reminded me so much of the agnus, i dont know if you intended it that way, but i think some variation would be nice

Sanctus - Again, pretty, but no suprises...

Overall, nice things going on, very "church friendly" you could say. I mean its pretty but some suprises would be nice.
Good work!

Thanks tenor for the wonderful comment. You are very right, the Kyrie and the Agnus shares the same thematic material, theme and nuance. It is not actually a concert piece, as you have said it is very church friendly. In my country, the Philippines, church choir are all amateurs. Not to mention that the catholic church service does not allow a somewhat concert type of music during the service. Moreover, I thought of making each voice melodically simple so that learning it would not require so much time. As for the piano part, well, pianist are rare commodities here, that is why, making a somewhat simple yet beautiful piano part has challenged me a lot.

However, I will consider your suggestion of making something new so as to make each piece somewhat related at the same time different from each other.
