Good piece! It was very enjoyable.

PS- Do you use Sibelius? If so, how did you get the harp glissando's to play back?

Thank you.

And no. Ew. I tried Sibelius, and I really hated it. I'm a 100% Finale guy.

How to make it better. Like, for example, "You should bring the oboe out more in movement 5" or "The chords in movement 6 could be better."
Like that.

How would I know how to make your composition better?

All I could tell you is what I would do if I were you. I guess I could do that.

The 2 examples you state about the oboes and chords are very general. And if you are aware of them then go ahead and make the change.

Trust your own ear not someone else's. If you want someone to rip this apart there are those who could oblige on this forum.

Why numb your own voice by someones corrections that have a different taste?

State what you may feel is wrong with this composition and see if people agree or not.

If your concerned about more technical or theoretical rights and wrongs, that's a bit different.

It's your canvas, paint what you want.

Again, I really liked it! Would I do some things different?, sure!, I'm a different composer.

Let me know what you think.

Michael

Those examples were just totally made up. I wasn't really trying to point out something that I should fix. But I see what you're saying.

OK,

I hope I didn't come off too harsh,? but I am passionate about a composer developing their own voice and style without "much" intervention of overly instructed and strict influences.

A good composition "will" have "balance" in tone, themes, dynamics, articulations, etc.
A "great" composer "will" have a "balance" of education and instruction with natural, intuitive, and creative passion for orchestral expression.

You were fine. I totally agree with that. I really hate it when people pretty much just rely on theory to create their pieces. Whenever I hear a piece composed that way, I don't really like it.
