You should grade on orchestration, harmony, etc.

Don't forget innovation and creativity, although that is very much subjective

You may submit any piece that you want, as long as it hasn't already been posted anywhere in YC. In the end, we'll all vote on the best (in terms of orchestration, harmony, creativity, ect.) composition.

sure, I'm up for it. It sounds like a nice idea.

Would we group it so that there was only one type of submission? i.e. a person with a string quartet wouldn't be competing against another person's piano sonata? I don't really care if it is that way, just curious

I don't think it would be a real problem if the contests weren't in categories (i.e., people won't have to submit a forced piano sonata for a piano sonata contest, a minuet for a minuet contest, ect.), but if you guys think otherwise, then that's okay too. Grouped contests might even be a little easier...

Yeah, I think it would be much easier to compare the results if all the compositions were of the same type.

yeah, how do you plan to judge a symphony against a bassoon concerto?

obviously the bassoon concerto would win, but still
