Actually I was in contact with Grant Colburn and he offered to advise me, but unfortunately I have not had any substantial time to compose for months now. I am not as much interested in the society itself as in the advice , but as soon as I get time (perhaps even this weekend) I will contact him again; I am working on a sonata for two flutes and continuo.

Very beautiful. Tasteful, understated, not overzealous, well-realized. Very valuable. Surely this composition will survive quite a long time.

John, you're a gentleman and a scholar. It's a very specific piece, but from your mouth to God's ears. I do intend to publish it.

I had a quick listen to the sample recording, and it sounds great. Best of luck in your publishing efforts!

One of the boons of living in our age is that we can all be publishers, and would do well to be such. If I don't do it, it won't get done. Thanks for your well-wishing.

Lee, this is a great piece! very sensitive, peaceful, with a lovely melody and perfect balance. loved! it works wonderfully as instrumental piece too.

Heh...that is a bit wicked, isn't it. The middle section of Mozart's "Ave verum corpus," after which this is rather obviously patterned, has similar dissonance at unda fluxit et sanguine, though not quite as adventurous. Maybe that's the Schubert influence creeping in. Someone in the church might have dropped their rosary, but I probably wouldn't have been flogged for it back in the day.
If you look to Mozart's C minor Mass though, you'll find it's replete with such bold harmonies - in fact, there's even a short one of those Schubertian modulations of which you were speaking. I'd love to have seen how many rosaries dropped in its performance.

That being said, this is a fine piece, and yet another example of your good taste in composition, Lee. Expertly crafted, as well as beautiful -- I'm certainly looking forward to your Missa Brevis. There's definitely a lot to be said for beauty in music.

Lovely piece. Has a straightforwardness and piety I hear expressed in some of Bruckner's less dramatic motets. Actually I enjoyed the half diminished chords -- it was a welcome harmonic change. Also the textural changes were nicely done. I have yet to write a choral piece but I hope to try with something simple for an amateur (though they are pretty accomplished for "amateurs") schola that sings a Compline service from Advent through Eastert at a church where I live.

Also, hopefully you have fixed the one or two clashes due to the transfer. I have Sibelius and find myself cursing the program when entering scores --- it is sooo easy to waste time!

I don't know much about this genre, but I know a lovely piece when I hear it. I agree with everyone hear: it's a shame you couldn't find a group to perform this well.
