I look forward to seeing what you expect mallet percussion to do. I think that I'm going to be coming back to listen even more often than I already do now.

Cool!

Wow, this kept my interest to the very end. I'm very picky about the kinds of minimalism I listen to, but I have to say that this piece did an excellent job of avoiding boredom, especially because used the buildup/layering techniques. Also, it began to change harmonically toward the end, which seemed like the logical thing to do after all of the parts had come in. I also enjoyed the complex undercurrent of rhythm; it helped to propel the music forward. Yes, add more parts. And then, finish the piece so we can listen to it in its entirety!
Keep up the excellent work!

I really like this section. Its really smooth at times and then adds in extra color from the woodwinds subtly. The cresendos I loved. The little things that you've done make this a very interesting and captivating piece to listen to. The cymbal part was a little hard to hear, but I suspect that that was just the way that you wrote it....

Haha... I heard a part in the clarinet that sounded JUST LIKE Reich's "New York Counterpoint" (1st section.) I'm sure you have heard that piece before... lol.

So you wrote it on cakewalk, are you planning on taking it to paper? Your roommate might be able to help you a lot with that.

hahah yeah, I'm pretty sure I did hear it before. I know I'm also stealing a little from schwatner's "velocities" for marimba.

Yeah, I would like to take it to paper. My roommate has already agreed to help me out He thinks I should submit it to on one of peabody's comp readings--I think that would be awesome!!!

Sounds awesome. I have a friend who applied to Peabody for as Master's in Comp, but is going to Cincinnati instead, but he did talk about how wonderful Peabody was to its composers in their composition readings. Good luck!

This piece is really coming along well. I love all the gradual building and the eventual climax of this first section brings us perfectly into that great brass melody. This second section really add a lot on the first section's momentum and excitement - I urrrrrrge you to write the next section softer, slower, thinner texture, etc. Any sort of tied-in contrast will do. (take one of the previous melodies, maybe focus on the clarinet bit from the beginning section and work on that in a thinner texture?)

I would love to help finish orchestrate and to score this piece! Because it's coming audio first rather than score, and that it's so rhythmically and contrapuntally complex, I know it will be a lot of work. But we can do it!

So keep working!!

Wow.. Just wow..

This is one of the best pieces I've heard on this site! It's both beautiful and intense. Keep up the good work.

Here's another update! Finally letting some strings do some stuff. The melodies are a fugue between solo violin1, viola, cello, and violin2 in that order.
