My take at composing Jazz

Hello there

I'm a trombonist and I don't usually compose stuff, but when I do, I do it from heart and don't use my brain. (a.k.a I suck at theory). But I want you to give me some feedback of my work.

C-Man Swing - This is a standard II-V7-I I did awhile ago, It's not finished but the "main" theme is done.

Stonecold - A little experiment which includes an accordion.

Waltz to Orleans - This one is far from finished, it's just a vamp (I love vamps as you might notice) where a melody is supposed to be placed upon.

And while I'm at it, i might aswell upload some less "important" midi compositions for you to enjoy.

A 12-bar Blues - My first "composition" ever.

Another 12-bar Blues - A tad more serious blues.. I think.

Achtung Viking! - My take at making metal...

Except for the "metal" one which is a bit strange I really like them. My main comment is they are too short. Real toe-tapping easy-listening stuff - very good, write more.

C-man swing: What's that instrument supposed to be??? The melody part i mean.
You need to take this somewhere else now, have a bridge, then return to the first idea maybe but you need to take it somewhere.

Stonecold: hehe, reminds me of Paris..almost...um, you could do more with
this too, if you wanted to, you said it was an experiment so..
but it has potential to go further

Waktz to Orleans: My favourite ensemble . Nice, hope you're developing this 'cause it'll be groovy!

A 12-bar blues:hehehe, you know those films where they do everything sped up to show the events of the day or something...you're all thinking "what the fuck is she on about" aren't you? anyway, sounds like backing music to that. Cool! Very cute.

another 12-bar blues: Nice. Too short, actually i agree with Euler, they're all too short, you can do so much more with them.

Another viking: i thought for a minute that this was also meant to be jazz and i was trying to understand how it was possible for you to suddenly lose your ability writing in that style ohew! Um, i have to say it's not really my thing but that's irrelevant, i don't know that you quite hit the metal genre, i heard way too many clear notes ...sorry if i'm offending anyone, *hides*..um.okay moving on...

I'm really amazed at how well you write jazz solos, did you just improvuse these and then write them down??? They sound like high-class impros but they're actually written down...!

Anyway, sorry for rambling so much, hope you can find some scrap of helpfulness in here. if you wanna know more about what I mean when I keep saying develop it more i'll try to elaborate for you...

Camilla ...sorry...

Thanks for the comments, I'll definately make most of these longer. Especially C-Man Swing and Waltz to Orleans.

The solos are "improv-written down".

Oh yeah, the instrument in C-Man Swing is a Vibraphone, but it could be adapted to almost any instrument. I just chose to render it with a vibraphone because it sounded soft and tender.

I really appriciate your comments Camilla.

C-Man Swing: Great melody on the vibes, make it longer and develop it more, throw in a few more instruments and it will be really great.

Same goes for basically everything else.

Achtung Viking, well midi dist. guitars don't do dist. guitars any justice whatsoever so if you were to record it it would sound a lot better. As far as the song, it kind of had a wierd structure and in the beginning it sounded like a cross between techno and 80's pop hehe. I'm sure if you develop that too it would sound better.

Basically, I know it's all ben said, but just develop these ideas into full length pieces and you will have something really good.

Good Job
