New here; developing String Quartet

Greetings all,

This is, to the best of my knowledge, my first post on this site, which I think is pretty wonderful and a resource I have no choice but to take advantage of.

To cut to today's chase, I'm a 16 year old guy who's very, very intent to become a composer. This is a brief idea for a short string quartet I've been kicking around. I'd like to think of this as the A section to the piece. No clue about the B section yet (incidentally, any ideas are welcome).
You'll notice the piece is in A minor and prepares to modulate to E minor at the very end (the B7#5 chord)

It's a very straightforward section, so I intend to make the B section more harmonically interesting (I purposely backed off of borrowed chords et al for this bit.) I want something strong and simple, to sum it up.

Please, and I mean this, tear it to shreds. I'm here to learn.

-Brendan

Edit: Here is a link to an mp3 of the song. (Ignore the pizz at the end.)

I liked it a lot. This kind of music is my cup of tea. You had a lot of nice motion, and you used syncopation really well. Keep up the good work!

I don't really have any criticisms, perhaps consider putting some pizz earlier like with the syncopation. Also, I didn't like that whole measure's rest towards the end. is that on purpose?

By the way, this should actually be in the incomplete works section.

and learn the ranges of the string instruments.

you're out of viola range there at one point (that I noticed, there may be more).

In musical criticism, when issues of craft and technical consideration are set aside, what remains is more subjective. However, until technical issues are dealt with, the subjective portion bears considerably less weight.

I'd love to know just where; looking through the score and referencing my notes on instrument ranges I don't see where the viola, or any part, becomes out of range.

(Incidentally QcCowboy, I'm reading your masterclass postings right now, just got to strings. Observe as I realize all my mistakes.)
