Exclamation New Shoutbox Features

I've added a Search feature to the shoutbox.

You can use it by going to the shoutbox archive (normally you would reach this page by clicking View Archived Shouts in the top right hand corner of the main shoutbox window). It's on the right hand side.

Please test it out and report any problems here.

Also, archived shouts will be kept for 72 hours from now on, as opposed to 24.

I may at some point also devote some time to making it work in Safari (browser of choice for many Apple Mac users, for you Windows people), as I imagine its state of being compulsorily disabled annoys them slightly...

I've now added a "templink" function which allows you to quickly reference and find individual shouts. It works exactly as permalinks do on posts (they're available above and to the right of each), except links to shouts aren't permanent since they're cleared out after 3 days, hence templink.

Again, this feature is accessible from within the archive view. Look for the temp link next to the time stamp.

Seems to work OK...any problems, just let me know.

Hmm... bored much, Mike?

I was thinking... what are the chances of a makeover for the shout archives? I would personally like to see the shouts laid out different in the archives, find it difficult and awkward to copy shouts currently... for one thing, they are only one line at a time, with the user name and shout on different lines. Would it be possible to rearrange this so that they are displayed a little bit more like the shoutbox itself, with the username, timestamp, and shout all in one line, easily copy-pastable? Also, the #templink would have to be placed in a way that it isn't highlighted when trying to mass-copy multiple shouts, something I tried to do to record a conversation involving an abusive/offensive member a little while back. Also, one more thing... how about more shouts per page in the archives... maybe double what we have, which would be 20 at least. It is annoying reading 10 shouts per page to catch up on a conversation if you were away or to find something to refer to when the conversation moves so fast you find that something is on page 10 by the time you get to page 6 where you expected it to be. I think more shouts per page would make everyone a little happier, plus the ability to mass-copy shouts more easily.

Possible?

*bumps about my above things mentioned*

So anyways, who changed the colour of /me text in the Shoutbox? Who dunit? Anyways, now that the colour has been changed (it's been quite a while now) it is the same colour for each of the different skins, and is pretty hard on the eyes especially in the Dark Red, Green, and Yellow skins. It used to be a different colour for each skin, but now it's the same red colour. Could this be quick-fixed?

*notices how ugly the Google ads are in all but the default skin*

And where is the upper row of tabs in the Tangerine skin? I was just thinking of switching over to Tangerine for good, but the absence of these all-important tabs has put me in utter dismay.

Mikebot! Hurry up! Get coding!

Don't you think you might be overloading the Mikebot James?

I've fixed the issue with "/me" - the other suggestions have been acknowledged but not yet acted upon. One thing I really want to do at some stage is modify the archive such that the moment you visit the first page, it "freezes" things in a way that prevents new shouts affecting pagination. This should make navigation a lot easier.

I use Safari on Windows...it's so much faster; it kicks Firefox in the rump. So, yes, program away for Safari.
