"Melodic intrest- Can you convey a melody in a way to let me understand it completely?"

So, I took the melody I was going to use, and the melody ONLY (which is only eight bars of material, mind you), and tried to build around it harmonically to convey a certain feeling. Your second parameter is harmonic interest, and all of my harmonies are my own original concoctions. I also used the two melodies together in one piece to take the listener to different places (your third parameter). My instrumentation (fourth parameter) is as follows:

Violoncello I
Violoncello II
Violoncello III
Contrebasse I
Contrebasse II

Obviously, your fifth parameter was the name of the game, so I went after that like a herd of turtles. The introduction is my own material, as is some filler material after Gung Shi. These bits of original material are mostly to give the feeling of cherishing the past year and welcoming the new one, as is the main theme, Auld Lang Syne. My middle section, the the Gung Shi melody, is the New Years party. As you can tell, it's rather rowdy, but all eventually calms down and everyone starts singing Auld Lang Syne again. (of course )

Since you said to send by PM, I'll post the links in this thread after the judging has already taken place and any winners have been announced.

Wow! I'm glad that even though this is such a small competition (and it is probably appropriate that this is my first competition to judge), and still someone is taking it seriously! I'm soo happy!

And mine....will be . I finished the piece, but now I have to clean it up (not too much work, as I like to write as clean as I can the first time ) and fix the performance errors. Gotta rehearse before the big recording session .

... Yeah right...? It's not going to be recorded, right?

Anyway, nice to see that we have two competitors head-to-head. Should I post the results of the competition here?

heh, I was just referring to fixing Finale and my samples to sound their best (after first fixing the actual problems ).

Sure, post the results here. Are we allowed to post the pieces in their forums as well, or sure we just wait until after the results?

....and what about the other judges ?

I will post the results here, and the pieces that you both wrote at the same time.

The other judges died. I assume they aren't judging anymore since they haven't responded after multiple attamts to reach them.

I thought about it... but liked absolute control. I have never been good at teamwork, especially over the internet.

I think we should call in at least one other judge and add the scores together, I'd rather not see one judge judging two entries by himself, it's a little too..... I dunno, I just want more than one opinion.

I'll be looking for in-depth critiques.
