hmmm...congrats to James for winning (I heard your piece, it was indeed well written)

To the complaints on my piece, though: I thought I'd just say that I thought that the piece was supposed to be our feelings at the New Year, not a "New Year's theme" and for me that meant the piece was supposed to be suspenseful, and apprehensive. I thought I pulled this off on some level .

and my piece was not atonal at all . A lot of chromatic notes, sure, and I don't necessarily establish the tonal center right away (I start on a suspension, after all, and hold/repeat it for a while), but it is in F-minor (with an section in F major, of course). I was indeed experimenting with some more dissonant harmonies, more so than I would normally, perhaps, but I thought with a score it would've been obvious as to what's happening.

Yay! I won!!

Close race, congrats Dave!

Just thought I'd back up a few things... about the Cb vs. B major.... I wasn't really sure, and it made more sense harmonically to put it in Cb, so I left it as is. Personally, I love Cb and hate B (even on violin, which I play), so that had some influence. I did look at it in B major, and I didn't like how it looked. I know it wasn't the smartest decision.

About extended techniques, I wasn't to hot about using them, I was trying to make it rather traditional with as little flare as possible (with the exception of the bluesy gospel moments tossed in). At one point I did have a pizzicato section, but it didn't work out well, so I changed it completely (this is the original material right before Auld Lang Syne comes back the second time).

And about how I should be proud of my arrangement/harmonization of the melodies, I am, rest assured. =]

Anyways, thank you, Abadoss.

And you heard my piece, Dave? Where?

Saw it on your esnips thing. I thought it was nice, but a bit too traditional for my taste....well-written, good technique and all but I thought a bit more originality would've been nice.
