Alex, do you mind if I change the name to just 'Oboe' and move it the instruments category?

"The oboe has a musical range of about 3 octaves, from Bb3 to C#7."

A little extreme, don't you think? I'm not sure I want people to read this and think they can write for oboe that high... how about F6 instead of C#7? Oboe players? What do you think?

I can get to about a D above the staff ok, but it starts to get weird after. And much more difficult.

Well. I can play up to the G above high C (sounding good) on an average day. Some days I can get up to double high C. If I can do it as a high schooler, than everyone else worth noting should be able to reach at least that high.

Range isn't necessarily an indication of talent; your assumption was not a good one to make.
It's pretty much standard knowledge that if you dare to use the oboe up at F and higher, you basically have to cover up the shrill sound, because it does not sound good that high. You don't see a lot written above the G.

Maybe a qualititative discussion of the range is a good idea, instead of putting an absolute upper limit.

On the oboe, range *IS* an indicator of talent, and a major one at that. I wouldn't have mentioned it otherwise.
