At an attempt to to post prior topics about my compositions, I have been redirected to rules and guidelines for posting. So here goes...

The piece is called "Geode". It is a short jazz improvisation.

Here is the direct link:

It is an iTunes friendly download.

Here is the site it came from:

1. Techniques used/Inspiration/Goal of composition (Is it a study? A piece for children? A romance for a woman? A fantasy?)

Hmm, well the techniques I used were improvisation based on a melody I previously wrote. The 30 second intro is just to change up the feel of it so the left hand isn't the same throughout the entire piece. I really didn't have a goal for this one, but now that I listen to it, it kind of sounds like someone exploring a dark cave with a headlamp on finding all kinds of interesting things like rocks (hence the name "Geode"), bones, stuff like that.

2. How long it took to compose the piece

3 minutes and 16 seconds.

3. Structure of your piece

Well, there's a short intro with some jazzy/swanky stuff then it goes into the chromatic stuff in the right hand and syncopation in the left hand. Then improv in the right hand, back to the chromatic and that's it.

4. Obstacles when composing

I tried to make a Mono Audio Mixdown on my keyboard, but I didn't have enough space so I had to send it to my computer through my 8 track mixer so I didn't get that "clean" Fantom X-8 sound, it still sounds good, but not Fantom status.

5. Summary of overall piece

Well, I like it. I like the sound of it. It has differing styles, like when I go from Ab, to Bb, to C major it gives it that "heroic" feel. But at the same time, I have that Cm7, D, Db, C thing that gives it a kind of mysterious feel. I kept the left hand the same throughout because I like the sound of having differing chords in the right hand over the same note in the left.

Cool piece. Energetic and interesting. I'm not a pianist or jazz artist, so I really can't say anything about structure/technique. It sounds cool, definately mellow, and I agree that's it's a bit like exploring a cave. I enjoyed it!

And improved is even better.

Good stuff,
Evan
