Prayer of a Decoy

Ah it's been a very long time since I last put something up here! But here it is, my new piece. It's my first one using EWQLSO and there are one or two slight crackles cause I'm still getting used to recording through Audacity as I still use Sibelius 4.

But I'd like to hear what you think. This is for a musical I'm composing the music for that my youth drama group is going to perform and the vocal line is played by he Marimba.

Its sung by a woman who is scared for her life and saddened because her husband is consumed by his obsession: hunting the very man who threatens his wife. SO I was sort of going for saddness, fear, and anger in this.

Feedback appreciated! XD

I listened to this a few times yesterday but I didn't get around to commenting on it. So now that I have some free time today, I'll comment now.

Anyway, I really like this. This a very nice piece. I can definetly hear sadness and it fits well with what you were going for. But, I think this piece has a kind of optimism to it too, as opposed to absolute despair and I don't really get a sense of fear from this piece.

I can't really think of any ways to improve this. Overall, it's a very well written piece. Nice to finally hear a composition from you and I am looking forward to hearing more from you.

^ Thanks for that Nirvana.

Now the debate of whether to change it to get that "fear" down properly...I think not cause I did it in Sib 4, have finally figured out Sib 5 and cause of the wierd roundabout ways I has to do things in 4 the score is a mess. I'll bear it in mind for future pieces though, cheers :-)

Nice piece, but I don't really get a "fear and anger" feel from it either. I don't think the Marimba helps in this regard - are you just using it to demonstrate the vocal line? If not, then I would probably take it out altogether. You could maybe use more suspensions in the strings to get a "fear" feeling..(??)

Yeah the Marimba is just for the vocal line - in the final version thats a clarinet instead but its the same line.
