great piece. Has a lot of baroque flavor but touched by modern sounds as well. good work! Its so serene... and I mean serene in the very clearly musically expressed way. anyone can write a "serene" piece, but THIS piece, COMMUNICATES serenity.

Thanks.

What do you get from this piece? Just curious.

Ah, I lost my live performance of it. This will be more mechanical, but still...

I listened to both of these, and they're some of the most soothing music I've heard in a while.

They remind me of a CD of improvised meditations for celtic harp that an acquaintance of mine recorded a few years ago.

These pieces are perfect music for meditation, IMHO - especially the C-major Prelude. I generally prefer silence when I pray or meditate in private, but I could see using music like this as a tool to remove myself from my frenetic world and clear my mind. I hear the baroque influence, but the sensibility is contemporary to me. It was actually nice for a change not to feel the need for critical observation of a piece of music. It never even occurred to me to criticise it. It is what it is, and somehow transcends theory and convention. Derek's improvisations are actually much the same, though they seem more emotionally charged to me. I'll have to listen to them again.

I don't know how else to describe it, except that this is very centred, grounded music. If I may, I think I'd like to keep these pieces and use them during devotions and meditation. I have so much trouble quieting my mind, I need all the help I can get.

Jeremy, you and I don't always agree about everything, but the more I find out about you, the more I like you. You're a good man, and while I haven't heard everything you've ever done, you clearly channel the peace your faith gives you through music like this. Thanks for a few peaceful moments in an otherwise crazy day.

J. Lee,

1.) I am glad you liked them.

2.) Yeah, I cannot escape my Baroque foundation. As I said, I was schooled in the School of Bach.

3.) Thank you. I can say too that even though I disagree with people I still find my heart reaching toward them in love and feel tenderly toward them and hope their best, above all that they would know God and enjoy His presence. That I know comes from God.

You said its hard for you to quiet yourself. I too struggle there very much. Often I feel like an untamed animal and I have to force myself to sit still, and this more relaxing music I write I believe is God whispering His desire for me to slow down and spend time with Him in intimacy. To focus on what matters most and just be still and relax in His Presence.

I started writing in this style after a night of tears. I was wondering, "Does God desire I write music?" I was playing Bach's Prelude from English Suite no.3 (boy was I butchering it) and clearly I heard these words to my heart, "What do you want?" That question pierced my being and I could only cry (there is so much to be said about that one question), but in that time of tears I also heard Christ say clearly (as that same english suite played so beautifully within) that He doesn't want me to give up on music, He just desires to write music with me intmately, "That they may be One in Us". That night I started my first work in this style. If we will just slow down and abide in Him the river of mercy and living waters will flow through us and be a blessing to others. His desire in this is not for me alone, but for all men, "Abide in Me, and I in You".

You can download the set in mp3 and burn it to disc here if you like, Fount of Mercy Mp3
