Talking

Romantic/Impressionistic Prelude.
Not as much emotional as my last one, I had fun writing this though! It's pretty cool, tell me what you think!

1. Techniques used/Inspiration/Goal of composition (Is it a study? A piece for children? A romance for a woman? A fantasy?)
I am in a slump after getting over the guy who has been my inspiration for the past couple weeks. This was written for fun to try to get out of the slump, and I think I did
Techniques used...I am a beginner, so I don't really know "techniques", but I used the style of Romantic, or Impressionistic.
2. How long it took to compose the piece
A couple days, maybe an hour or so a day.
3. Structure of your piece
ABA
4. Obstacles when composing
There were a lot of them since I was in a slump.
Transitions.
5. Summary of overall piece
Just for fun!

Easily your best piece ever. It gave me goosebumps in several parts. such as: around 1:16, the arpeggio sequences are awesome, and the syncopated melodies in the left hand in passages up to that part were pretty sweet around 2:26 was some decent motivic development followed by some nice dark chords

I love the part near the end with some rather ornate right hand figuration, this is quite invigorating

Jen, I agree. Your best work I have heard
yet. It seems you are refining nicely with
time.

My most liked part started at 2:46. It was
ornamented nicely and had nice mixture
of harmonic colors.

Personally, I would like to hear you try
a more melodic piece. Something that
has a clear cut melody that is dressed
gracefully in harmony.

I am not sure if you like the popish/
new ageish stuff for piano. But... I think
if one can break out of the norm there
then the works are nice. I would like to
hear you attempt something along those
lines something melodic and graceful,
as I imagine a womans heart is.

Good work!

Jeremy

Listen to the first piece you posted here, and now listen to this. You improve as fast as I do! Which is pretty fast. But whereas I move up in the musical timeline from Mozart to friggin Dvorak, You moved from like Webern down to Faure or Liszt or Debussy. Maybe you'll be writing like Beethoven soon, lol!

All that aside, I don't think it was as amazing as everyone says it is. I thought your other prelude was better, but this one certainly displayed more musical impressiveness, but it did not breathe as much passion.

Cheers,

Nico

Yes Nico....if you noticed I have deleted like my first 10 posts I did that because it is no longer my style, and 2 and a half months ago when I started composing I didn't know crap about it. I am a little more experienced now. Personally, I like my other one better also, but because I put a lot more emotion into it. This one, I was just writing it to write it, it has no emotional ties to me. I was going through emotional trauma when I wrote the last one No, I will not be writing like Beethoven anytime soon. I love classical, but I just do not write it well. I think I will stick with the style I am using for now.

Jeremy, thank you for your comments! No, I do not like the pop newage stuff. It is not me. I will try to write more melodically, but there is just no telling what I will write. I do not plan it, I just write!

Thanks guys!

Cool

Wheee!!

That was fun! This piece sounds like some weird Asian atmospheric waterfall music. I loved it, very neat feel to it and great use of arpeggios...you're beginning to sound like me nah, just kidding.

Overall a great piece, nice-sounding harmonies and you're starting to sound a lot less amateur-ish with your compositions. I'm also noticing that you're getting more comfortable with exploring a wider range of sounds on the piano; this is good to see.

Keep up the good work and let's see a concerto soon

Hi Jen,

I havn't posted anything on the sight yet (lets just say i'm being a bystander for a while ...

I like your pieces. Especially on your myspace.
This prelude definitely has potential but it needs more subtle modulation if you seriously want it to proceed to an impressionistic level. You definitely create a solid foundation in terms of sound scape , its just what you7 put in which needs more refinement.

Otherwise good job for someone whose just starting out.

Cheers,

Rob.
