Prokofiev's 2nd Piano Sonata

Here is Prokofiev's 2nd Piano Sonata in D minor, Op. 14.
Movement 1, Allegro, ma non troppo

Movement 2, Scherzo, Allegro marcato

Movement 3, Andante

Movement 4, Vivace

Movement 4 is my favorite.

Here's the music.

Sorry, but we can't allow you to link to illegally distributed copyrighted recordings like this, Galt. It makes the site an accessory to copyright infringement.

By all means recommend the piece, but avoid linking to MP3s unless they are freely available.

Thanks.

Then I'd suggest you start removing all the links in the other Suggest a Work threads. I looked through a lot of them and most of them link to copyrighted material, mostly (illegally) posted on YouTube.

I freely admit that we've been lax in enforcing this rule up until now. I'm not actually aware of the copyright law surrounding video clips, though I assume the same rules apply. I'll look into it.

EDIT: Oh wait the links were removed... my bad.

YouTube's Copyright Tips state that "Videos of live concerts" are prohibited (along with TV shows). Seems pretty clear-cut to me.

Full text for the former:

Quote:
Even if you took the video yourself, the performer controls the right to use his/her image in a video, the songwriter owns the rights to the song being performed, and sometimes the venue prohibits filming without permission, so this video is likely to infringe somebody else's rights.
The only contention I can imagine is that it might be argued that YouTube, not us, are responsible for weeding out copyrighted content. However, the rules do state that you are not allowed to "provide any external links facilitating the unlawful distribution of copyrighted material". SaveFile's TOS also rather predictably prohibits the upload of copyright-breaching material, by the way.

Anyway, I think placing the blame on other sites' shoulders would be a dangerous road to go down, because then, what's to stop someone linking to a torrent site facilitating a cracked Finale 2007 download?

I'll add a sticky thread to this forum making these points clear. I'm going to fall short of going through each and every other thread in this forum weeding out links to copyrighted material, though, as that would be far too much work.

Also be aware that I'm not picking on you, Galt. I accept full responsibility for the previously lax enforcement of this rule. But we do have to start at some point, and with someone.

Then good-bye "Nixon in China."

As do YouTube's, I might add.

Good thinking there Mike. No, I'm not being sarcastic.

No, trust me Mike, I would never accuse or even assume you were picking on me. In fact, I rather like being the force behind a new enforcement of the rules.

Youtube is a quire site indeed.

Yes things posted there are copyrighted but notice what:

Copyright holders of the MUSIC, have no problem whatsoever really. The videos that were removed were the ones from MTV, VF1 etc. Only the telly stolen videos. The actual videos from Queen, Mika, whatever, are there with millions of views and no problems

BTW:
1st movement: YouTube - Prokofiev: Sonata No.2 in d min, I: Allegro ma non troppo(A)
2nd movement: YouTube - Prokofiev: Piano Sonata No. 2 in Dminor, II: Scherzo
3rd movement: YouTube - Prokofiev: Sonata No. 2 in d minor, III: Andante (A)
4th movement: YouTube - Prokofiev: Piano Sonata No.2 in D minor, IV: Vivace (Part 1)

All copyright free, put there by the copyright owner!

Not hard to find really: went to youtube and "prokofiev 2nd sonata"! That did it!

Actually most things are non copyrighted in youtube (talking about %). Ok Nelly Furtado maybe there as well, but who cares? Prokofiev is long dead!
