From now one, members can submit their own pieces in this subforum.

Chewie33's Submission

Matusleo's submission

smallz's submission

wolf_88's submission

Judges can do their judging by posting their comments and score.

Score from 1-10, 1 being poor, and 10 being superb.

I'm not sure i agree with this.... Well anyways, judges:

-

Give 1 score from 1 to 10, and write some comments, suggestions, and constructive criticism of minimum 5 lines. There will be no ''criteria'', as i don't want to restrict the judges too much, just make sure you value the ''end-of-the-world'' factor.

Here are my scores and comments for each of the four pieces above:

Wolf_88
=======

Very well written and the mood is quite interesting. I enjoyed the gradual build up that occurred within the piece and the passage starting at roughly 1 minute. Then the passage beginning at ~ 2 minutes builds wonderfully on the previous themes, leading into a beautiful, intense, and eerie climax. Great work overall - you kept me interested from the start through the end!

8/10

Chewie33
========

My first impression of this piece is that the winds were too overpowering. While the strings almost seem to linger in the background, the winds with their softer texture tend to throw off the balance of the entire piece. I do not believe that this is an effective way of composing for the theme of the composition.

However, the piece did have some great passages despite what I believe were balance issues and I truly enjoyed a number of your ideas.

5/10

Matusleo
========

I found the intro far to repetitive, then the passage at ~ 32 seconds that finally cuts up this pattern I found inappropriate. It almost had an optimistic feeling to it, but was not built upon so I could not tell why it was inputted into the piece to begin with. Then at ~3:30 there is a silence for 2 minutes: why? It seems like you are trying to advance an idea that is entirely unrelated to music through silence. This being a composition contest, I don't see how this is needed.

In its totality, I do not believe that the theme was accomplished to the full extent of your musical capabilities. I did enjoy the passage at ~ 2:30, but overall I do not believe that this piece was as effective as the other submissions.

3/10

smallz
======

This was definitely one of the more unique and original entries. It almost seemed like it was depicting an army's advance, which of course could be related to the topic of the contest. In this respect, the piece accomplishes its goal. However I did find the piece repetitive, and the second half seemed to paint a vague picture. The winds and especially french horns give off a sort of victorious mood, which I do not believe is one bit appropriate for the theme. Therefore, whereas I could buy into the 1/2 half of the piece, the second half I found too hard to swallow. I do not believe that you accomplished the goal of the contest overall, but feel that the potential was there.

6/10

Technical note:

I do not know why there is a space of silence for two minutes at the end of my work. It should not be there, and I ask that it not be held against me in judgement.

I've been pretty busy lately, but I'll try to listen to these pieces in depth and judge them soon.
