"Rainfall"

Remember when I sucked at composing?

Oh, here, let me remind you.

Anyway, I was lurking here again and happened across this. Reminded myself, thence, that I actually tried to do something like that.

Self-depreciative jokes aside; I'm actually pretty proud of this piece. I know it's not great but I am a relatively new composer and without any (formal or otherwise) musical training. Therefore, I do feel this piece is a step in the right direction. (The right direction being the one that will lead me to become a tolerable and even moderately well-received musician.) So rip it apart and tell me what's up, 'kay?

Also: I really do hope you like it.

The mp3: Terrible, free VST, go!

that sounds pretty nice!

i think a little more rhythmic variation would be nice. perhaps thicker harmony would help too.

there were times during this piece that sound like you are going to "get further" with the music, but you never usually do. so i think you should develope and expand the materials you already have, and maybe come up with a climax or something.

overall, definitely enjoyable to listen to.

Thanks. Yeah, being the amateur I am, proper harmonization isn't exactly second nature yet. But I'm certainly working on that.

I'm not exactly sure what you mean by "get further" but I think I've got the gist. As far as the climax; I didn't actually want a very overt "ending" to it but rather give it a feel like it's just fading out. I don't know what I'm talking about but, DAMN IT, it made sense before I tried to type it.

Oh, and I'm glad you enjoyed it.

I enjoyed it.

Thanks for sharing it.

All these rain pieces are making me want to write a "rain piece" now. If I do, I guarantee it will be quite amature, and totally unorthodox since I have no clue what I'm doing from a music theory point of view.

I just got done reshaping the hammers on piano. I just tuned it up superficially, and I didn't really finishing tuning the higher registers yet. If I'm going to play "rain" I'll have to get busy with the tuning hammer. (ha ha) Got to have those nice high notes.

DO IT! I've never tuned a piano before; I'm too white. Luckily my piano is a beast. I think we've had to tune it twice in my life.
