Recording with Vista?

Hi,

I recently got a new computer that has Windows Vista and when I try to render a piece I've made it doesn't record it.
The reason appears to be because it can only record input from an actual microphone and doesn't have the ability to record the computer's output, which is an option Windows XP has. Does anyone know how to solve this problem?

It may be your soundcard. A few new ones (like Sigmatel) don't allow the direct out as an input (in an effort to stop copyright infringement), which is retarded.

Funny because I have a Sigmatel soundcard in this computer. Case Closed.

I thought that might be the issue, but I wasn't completely sure. Unfortunately, this means that I will have to get a new one or take it out of my old computer and install it on this one. Thanks for the help spherenine.

From what I hear from a tech nerd (the one I consulted when this crap happened with my computer), if the sound card is integrated (mine is), you apparently can't replace it.

If you find evidence to the contrary (I was too lazy to do any research), then well, good for you. . . and tell me.

Did you try showing your disabled devices? For me, anyway, the stereo mix was originally disabled, so it didn't show up in the selection box.

But if you go to the recording devices box and right-click in it, there's an option that says "Show Disabled Devices". Once I did that, I was able to right-click on the stereo mix device and enable it, and everything worked fine.

That's just what I was told. . . I'm actually pretty happy that it appears to be untrue.

Vista just sucks, XP is far superior

Usually what happens I've found is when a program refuses to respond the operating system usually has shut it down for some unknown reason. I just stick to XP, it actually cooperates with you and won't give you 1,000,000 completely ridiculous excuses to let Microsoft interfere with your settings.

So yeah.. Screw Vista

Seeing this topic makes me loathe Vista more and makes me want to get a Mac.
