Right, I'm new to this.

I'm trying to write simple short pieces aimed at the style of game (rpg) music.. but i dunno where to take this... it has to be longer, but able to loop to the start, what chords? what alterations? anyone?

Good start! This definitely needs another section. May I reccomend that after the first repeat, put strings on the melody, as well as other orchestration- something orchestral, perhaps?
I hope I helped!
As for the second one you posted, It was very good! I reccomend going into a B section and adding woodwind and percussion, as well as some kind of rhythmic background in the bass brass. This is what I would do- Personally, I would be jubilant if I had that!

Haha thanks =), ill have a mess around with it, and try out some kind of b section then. i didnt really think of percussion. i write with sibelius and their percussion isnt exactly... worthy of anything. I can imagine.

Cheers!

Andy,

I think percussion is something that grows on you with Sibelius, I've had very few problems with it. Remember to change the type of notehead you use for percussion if you arn't already. Using cross noteheads gives you hi-hat/cymbals etc. This [yearning fields] is a good start but does need some percussion and then in the next section some strings I thing...perhaps just underlying the main melody.

If you're feeling advernturous try adding in some french-horns to play a counter-melody, I've always liked that effect and I reckon it would add some depth to the piece whilst keeping the mood.

Good work so far.
