Wow, I really like the piece!

Yes, it does seem like cliche film music, but within that genre it is quite nice! The use of the orchestra is quite brilliant, what with the lush string textures. It is a tad bit short for my tastes, though. But, I am still quite impressed by this.

Is this a live ensemble? Your samples are just GORGEOUS if it isn't live! If they are samples, I would really like to know the name.

Very nice work

Very well done. I am sure you will receive a fine grade for this.

Well my grade was a 9.5/10, but they didn't really count this piece, the orchestration isn't all that great since I did in a day or so, and I made some mistakes in the score since I wrote it at 2AM. They based the grade off the other compositions I presented (the modernist ones). Some staff members said they really like it, but of course they studied the score and saw that there wasn't much effort put into the piece.

It's all sampled, it isn't a live orchestra as that would require around 100 players to achieve such a full sound. I used Sonar, Symphonic Orchestra Gold Pro XP and Altiverb.

I'm thinking of re-orchestrating it and remaking it to achieve a more realistic sound.

Eastern Europe, school is a left-over from the USSR. Very efficient, I am also a good pianist.

You seem to have very good hearing. Yeah I'm probably going to fix it.

Well yeah I composed it in a day, and did the orchestration and audio in the next day, so yeah I couldn't achieve too much in such a short period of time, not with my skills, I do not consider myself a good composer yet.

Maxx this is very good and I can tell you've got a really good ear, but I must say this to you!
It would be well worth your time to listen to some older film music/music from the romantic period. Somebody on here made the same suggestion to me when I posted a piece, and I have never looked back. I think you have much potential, but a piece like this doesn't do anything to me (sorry!) Essentially, modern film music is very limited.
Listen to this music YouTube - Music of Bernard Herrmann - LA Philharmonic skip Tom Hanks by starting it at 2:00.
Basically you need some more dissonance to enhance your consonance. I hope this doesn't come off as being harsh; I honestly think you have a lot of potential, but for me modern film music is very clinical.

I must say I quite liked Bernard Herrmann's Scene d'Amour even though I prefer modern film music. I do like Romantic composers too, my favorite is Rachmaninoff.

Ah i see. Then essentially you have fulfilled your intentions wonderfully I'd say. Although I'm generally not fond of modern film music, I'd say this is a lot better than some of the stuff I've heard in the cinema!

Still I stand by my original comments, and the reason is, someone said the exact same thing to me when I was 17 and it really was helpful. It did piss me off a bit though!

Hi Max.

Yes, this is a very very nice piece!

And the rendering is also very compitent, well done on this! It is a bit muddy, not so much on the tail of the reverb, but mostly on how big the room is vs how far you placed the orchestra (more reverb = further away from the mic).

The orchestration is very competent and well thought out, plus it works in the audio so . The harmonic language is somewhat clichéd for me. A suggestion (not that you will change it right now, I know that), would be to attempt the same harmonic language but with extended 7ths, 9ths etc. Create suspensions (which are there), but don't resolve them. Just an example.

But is a complete work, no doubt there!

Thank you for the feedback, Nikolas. I'm glad you liked it, because you are much more experienced than me - I saw what you are capable of composing. I'll try to change what you told me to.
