Smile The Rose and the Grave - Live Recording

Hey Everyone!

Some of you know that this piece was selected for the Batlimore Choral Arts Society's Student Composer Project.

Well here is the live, I repeat LIVE recording of the reading.
It went well, a few problems here and there, but overall very nice. The Student Composer Project picks about 4 student composers and they give 30 mins. to rehearse and comment and they record it. Its an interesting experience.
I can't describe to you what I felt sitting there as the choir worked and performed the piece. It was magical. Composer Judah Adashi was the master teacher and he loved it and wants to keep in touch so thats cool.
I hope you all get a chance to hear your works performed.

Please Please Please Enjoy.

P.S - Ignore a few problems and the piano in the recording, its just a reading.

Scott

I am very happy that you got a piece done live. That I think is what we all wish for and you have gotten your first taste of it. Next stop Carnegie hall with a full blown orchestra and a 100 member choir backing them up.

Congrats my friend!!!!

Ron

Thanks Roman. It was great. The chorus really didn't get the piece, especially when it divided to 8 part harmonies, but it was really beautiful.

Seriously. If this is a reading, I can just imagine the sound of a perfected complete work. The harmonies you explored here are just fantastic.

Here is a piece of useless information you may be interested in: I finished school last year, and left with the last batch of good music students. There are now 8 people all up in music class, and 3 students who actually know what they are doing. Its really sad how music has declined. So, earlier on this year, I went to a music summer school, and had my first experience with a choir (that was actually good)...which inspired me when i got back home, to ask my old school if i could start a 'senior school' choir.

They said Yes!!! So, even though i am no where near qualified, I will be volunteerily starting the choir at the school. It is a very pop oriented school...but i plan on bringing works like yours in to their repertoire.

If there are any people out there who believe in prayer and God (I'm a Christian), can you please pray for me that this will go well.

And for those who read that last sentence and rolled your eyes, dont do it too much, because one day, they may roll backwards and stay there.

Nice job Scott! The choir seemed to lack strong sopranos... but overall it sounded like a great reading! Orchestra readings usually never sound as good as this one does.

Judah Adashi works at Peabody - he teaches some orchestration classes and gives lessons to composition minor students. Also, he runs programs at An Die Musik, on Charles St., so definitely a good guy to know!

Thanks. Yea, sopranos were kinda bad, but still a great reading. I think the problem was they wernt sure on the breathing, with more rehearsal than just 30 min, they would be stronger.
Yea Judah is awesome, and a good contact to have. He wants to stay in contact with me so thats really exciting.

Thanks again.
