[attachmentid=4370][attachmentid=4368][attachmentid=4366][attachmentid=4367][attachmentid=4367][attachmentid=4366]Samle troppene (English: "Collect The Troops", something like that, I don't know) is a piece I made in the end of the last year. It's for three horns. My horn trio has played it once on a competition and on two other concerts. We're going to play it on another competition soon.

It's a very intensive piece and like "masteso". Some people said it it's a little sad piece, I don't think the piece is sad, but it's minor, so. Some people said it's like film music and maybe like "The Lord Of The Rings" music. I understand why, but I don't agree.

I like the piece, but I had done something different if I had wrote it today. But I'm not really sure how I'm going to change it now. I got some response to it, much good response. But it's never late for changes. I hope you can help me (and also my trio) to get this piece a little better, and we're also going to play this much better on the next competition! I'll be thanksful for every comments you got![attachmentid=4367][attachmentid=4366][attachmentid=4367]

Hello Niklas -

I enjoyed this piece very much, there are some small things I would have changed voicing wise and I might would have tried to put a contrasting lyrical section in it, but those are strictly up to the composers discretion, so kind of irrelevant. I'll try to look at it more in depth later, but quick question, Am I reading that right that third horn plays an exposed pedal D? As in almost 2 octaves below horn middle c? If you have a horn player who can make that sound good in your trio, I'm impressed. Good tone and intonation down there is close to impossible. Oh, and my favorite spots were the high b flats in the first part... very nice.

I believe the 5th post has the updated version of the song.

Thanks! I'm playing the exposed pedal d. But it works, so I think that's okey. I think notes like pedal Bb is maybe or sometimes harder to intonate, actually.

That's true, I hate pedal B flats. I played a horn choir piece last year where I was playing eighth horn, practically the entire piece was down from a low e to pedal g - and someone was doubling my part who lacked the ability to really play down there

And of course the next piece we did, I was on first part and it was fast and high, something like 7 or 8 high c's in the piece
