Samples and copyright

Hey all

What's the deal with making tunes with samples? I've put together a coule of short tunes for podcasts, and they consist of almost nothing more than samples from a MAGIX program.

What are the copyright issues surrounding the use of samples like this? Could I or anyone - theoretically, anyway - use those finished recordings to make money?

if the sounds/libraries are included with the purchase of the software, then you're free to do with it as you please, it's yours.

i'm not saying it's original though, using preset sounds, but that aside..

If you're not using samples to make music that you're going to sell then you can do whatever you want. If you want to sell your music in some fashion then you have to get permission from the copyright owner one way or another (ie. you purchased a package of samples, you contacted whoever owns the publishing rights and set up a deal with them, etc.).
