Scherzo for String Trio

Hey everyone,

Here's a Scherzo that I wrote for two violins and single viola.

It's meant to be fairly light hearted and be a little odd (not too much).

It's structure is an ABA' form with each section having aba' subsections.

It took me only a few hours to compose, which is a very short time for me, and it needs a lot of work still (which is why I am posting this for criticism).

Please tell me what you think, thank you.

Greetings, MonkeysAteMe,

shouldn't this be in the writer's block forum? It seems quite incomplete to me. You have some good melodies there. Also, I love the viola being used as the bass! It makes for a very witty (?) texture!

You have harmonized with fourths a lot. That, despite its archaic feel, gets a bit tiresome, after a while. Some transitions were not working very smoothly. Also, this is long. The modulation is a fresh touch, but it should have happened a lot earlier, IMO. Yes, and the score is a mess!

This can become a very fine piece of music! I see a lot of potential. Keep writing!

Thank you very much for your comments. I like the transitions the way they are , as in not very smooth, but I definently see where the majority of people would not like it that way.

I'll look into the harmony and look for more places to modulate.

Thank you for listening!
